Singapore

Wahoo!!!  We FINALLY made it to Southeast Asia!  Johnnie and I landed in Singapore late on Tuesday, February 1st.  Even though it was completely dark out, I could not believe how clean and green everything was!  We headed straight to the Marriott on Orchard Road and crashed pretty soon after a shower (which felt so amazing after the long flight!).

The next morning, we woke up and enjoyed a delicious breakfast at the hotel.  I thought the Europeans did breakfast big (my favorite part being the cheese and crackers, of course).  But the Asians!  They matched the Europeans' cheese and crackers and raised them noodles, rice, and dumplings!  I was in heaven!

After breakfast, we met up with a high school friend of mine who has been living with her husband in Singapore for the past couple of years.  Krista and Scott gave us some excellent suggestions and pointers for exploring Singapore.  Unfortunately, that very day was their last day in the country before they moved back to the U.S.  So glad we were able to see each other, even if only for a few hours!

Because it was Chinese New Years Eve, Krista and Scott recommended that we go down to Chinatown to be a part of the action.  Chinatown was packed with people running around, buying food, presents, and decorations for the holiday.  Here's Johnnie in the middle of it all!

Maybe my favorite picture that I took on the whole trip!  Not sure why.  :)  Happy Year of the Rabbit!

Lanterns hanging outside of a Chinese temple.

Love this guy!

Rabbit statues were EVERYWHERE!  Hippity hop!

We walked to lunch at Clarke Quay (pronounced "key").

The famous Raffles Hotel.  I really wanted to order a Singapore Slinger at the Long Bar in the hotel.  The drink was apparently invented there and made specifically for women to drink.  However, we were both feeling a little jet lagged so we headed back towards the hotel.

I wish I could say I took more pictures than this, but I can't.  :(  I think I was just trying to take it all in and wasn't focusing on being a photog.  Next time we're in Singapore, I promise I'll do better!

On Thursday, the 3rd, we boarded a plane for Kuching.  It was pretty surreal to finally be on our way...
