Kuching, Malaysia

THE CONDO

After picking up the essentials (towels, sheets, tp, etc), we "moved in" to the condo we would have called home for the next 3 years, had our plans not changed yet again.  :)

We were told by other residents that Bampfylde Condominiums is the nicest place to live in Kuching...I believe them.

Our unit was on the 3rd floor, just around the corner to the left.

View as you walk in the front door.  Living room to your left, dining room straight ahead.  There were 4 walls of windows and doors all along the left side of the space.

Living room view, taken while standing in the dining room.  All of the main rooms in the condo had air conditioning units in them.  However, I would turn the units off during the day, open all of the doors in the condo, and the breeze blowing through cooled the entire home!  Around 5 or 6 in the evening (when the birds started loudly chirping, signaling the increase in bug activity), I would shut the doors and turn the A.C. on again.

Living room balcony...coffee tastes really good when you're sitting out here...wine does too!  :)

Awesome dining room with two patios!  I could have had some great dinner parties in here!

Kitchen...there was no A.C. (or "A-con," as the Kuchingians call it) in the kitchen.  At times, it could get a little stuffy, but the air really flowed pretty well through the space for the most part.

The door straight ahead leads to the stairwell.

Through the kitchen, is the utility room (including a separate bathroom and ironing room).  I'll tell you what...doing laundry stinks a lot less when you've got an open air view of the palm trees!  This large window helped to cool off the kitchen during the days.

Master bedroom (with the comforter that Heather let us borrow so we didn't have to buy one).

My favorite room in the condo...the open air master bathroom!  Like the kitchen, this room was not air conditioned, but it was pleasant 100% of the time!

Double guest room with a private balcony, where all of our visitors would have stayed.  I was so looking forward to making this room into a fabulous guest oasis.

Guest full bathroom...

Twin guest room with desk.  This room felt like a tree house to me, with the palms hugging the side of the room's private balcony!

When we first arrived at the condo, Heather surprised us with an AMAZING welcome basket!  The basket, in the shape of a fish, was filled with local food mixes (laksa, sweet and sour, etc), Chinese candies and New Years decorations, wine glasses, coffee mugs, a bag of Starbucks coffee, a bottle of wine (with an adorable Chinese dress cover), and other fun things!  Thank you again Heather!!

The condo dark-bottom pool...I could have been really good at being a Malaysian lady of leisure here!  :)

Reflecting pond next to the pool.

As you can see, our condo was pretty fantastic.  Johnnie and I have both said, it's pretty crazy to think we were actually going to live there.  Every day I woke up, I felt like I was on a tropical vacation, all thanks to this condo.  I was amazed at how attached I became to a home we only lived in for a couple of weeks.  I miss it tremendously and I'm really hoping (although it will be hard not to) that I don't compare every home we ever have in the future to this one.  Sigh...
