Kuching, Malaysia

KUCHING SIGHTS

I am devoting this entire blog post to the sights of Kuching...just to give you an idea of what you might see driving down the road.  In fact, most of these pictures I took from the passenger seat of Heather's car as we gallivanted around town!  Let the tour begin!

Here are a few snapshots of homes in Kuching...

Attached row houses are very common...

Some single family homes are simple and small...

Others are grand and quite large...

Cruising down the Main Bazaar, a long street lined with stores selling local handicrafts, t-shirts, and specialty foods...

At an intersection...

Selamat Datang to McDonald's!!  Translation:  Welcome to McDonald's!!  :)

The Lodge International School...where Heather's son, Richie, fills his head with knowledge.  He is enrolled in "regular" classes (i.e., literature, math, P.E., etc.) as well as technology classes, Korean, and Bahasa Melayu (Malaysian language) classes.

School van!?!  So cute.  :)

The first Bahasa word we learned!

Jambu - a restaurant close to our condo...

The Kuching Autism Association building...where I had hoped to volunteer.  I could not believe it when I saw how close it was to our condo...maybe 5 minutes walking.

Riverfront Suites...the condominiums where a bunch of the other MEMC peeps live...

The big Kuching cat at the entrance to Chinatown!!  They dress him up for holidays!

Chinese temple...

Colorful buildings...

Pink mosque (Malaysian Barbie dream house!)...

The Junk - a fantastic restaurant.  No joke...I am still dreaming about the seafood risotto I had here!

Lanterns hanging outside of a temple, with a stormy sky rolling in behind...

I wish we had more time in Kuching (that's no big surprise)!  There are still so many sights that I want to see.  Top on my list are Damai Beach, the orangutan sanctuary, and the Sarawak Cultural Village.  Keeping my fingers crossed for the opportunity to go back soon!
