Hi friends and family! I finally got Johnnie to sit down long enough (while not working or looking at his fantasy football standings) to finish part 2 of his Southeast Asia post. Here he is...
After leaving Singapore, I continued on to Kuching for my first visit to our new home. This trip served two purposes. First, I participated in a few brief meetings while there. Second, and more importantly, this was my first opportunity to assess the feel of our future home.
Below is my first view of the Kuching airport upon arrival.
These sticks are actually giant steel structural beams that will form the skeleton of our plant.
View from my Hilton hotel window overlooking the Kuching river. The pagoda is a Kuching government building.
Random town photo. This one was taken from the front of a shopping plaza.
Another hotel view, this time in the opposite direction.
Why am I smiling? Beer, wine, bacon, peanut butter, and frozen crawfish to name a few things.
Perhaps our future home??????
In all, my impression is that Kuching is going to be a great place to live. I've only shown a fraction of the pictures that I took, but this place is not what I originally expected. It is a place with a wide spectrum of experiences. In some areas you will see the third world that you expect to see when you think of Malaysia. However, in others, it is as developed as some areas here in the US (there is an Apple store and multiple Starbucks). Katherine will be creating a travel calendar to manage our guest bedrooms, so start saving your vacation days.
